David Lange

David Lange was the member of parliament for Mangere from 1977 to 1996. In 1984 he became one of New Zealand's youngest prime ministers, aged 41, and held office until his resignation in 1989. Before entering politics he practiced as a barrister and solicitor in Kaikohe and Auckland and also tutored in law at the University of Auckland. In 1984 he was appointed a member of Her Majesty's privy council and in 2003 was awarded the Order of New Zealand, the country's highest honour.
